In many memory care environments, residents living with dementia encounter leisure activities that lack dignity, meaningful engagement, and personal relevance. These activities often fail to acknowledge individual interests, accommodate diverse abilities, or foster social interaction in a respectful manner. In response to these challenges, we developed Possibilities Palettes, a creative, design-based activity that prioritizes dignity, customization, and versatility.
By building on insights around honouring personal histories, encouraging collaboration, and ensuring activities feel mature and adult-oriented rather than childlike, Possibilities Palettes supports a range of cognitive abilities and interests. This flexible kit enables participants to explore familiar themes, arrange tactile samples, and create their own expressive compositions—fostering both cognitive engagement and emotional connection.
